The project team is grateful to the hundreds of local people who shared their views via this consultation. With so many responses, this feedback provides a comprehensive summary of local people&rsquo;s views. The consultation report linked below summarises the findings of the survey and <a href="https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/edit?mid=1T8Duev1qCJWpUZeZ7izfQFbltc6n7rY&ll=51.49334353604752%2C-2.512049200000004&z=13" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">the map</a> plots comments which relate to specific locations where people have highlighted potential improvements or concerns.The project team and designers reviewed the specific feedback and original designs to consider opportunities to improve the scheme.Local people showed strong support for the proposed improvements to walking, wheeling, cycling and bus infrastructure on the A4174. However, questions were asked about some elements of the scheme, which the Design Response document seeks to answer.Next steps for this project are for a Full Business Case to be submitted to the West of England Combined Authority who are funding these improvements in the summer 2024. They will review the evidence presented and make a final decision about whether the scheme should proceed.

We are proposing a reduced speed limit on some sections to improve safety

Revision to speed limit

We are proposing to adjust the speed limit from 50mph to 40mph for westbound traffic from Bromley Heath roundabout to Abbey Wood roundabout to improve safety for all road users.&nbsp;Legislation dictates what speed limits should be in place where roads are shared between different users, depending on the separation which is possible between cycle tracks and the main carriageway shown in the table below. We are seeking views on our proposals to invest in facilities for people walking, cycling, wheeling, and travelling by bus along the A4174 (between the Coldharbour Lane junction and the Wick Wick Roundabout).&nbsp;We sought initial views on this scheme of work in spring 2022 alongside proposals for the A432.  This round of engagement focuses on the designs for the A4174 only. Proposals for the A432 are still being developed and there will be an opportunity to provide comment on those designs next year.&nbsp;Please share your feedback on the designs for the A174 by completing this survey.

The proposals

We have sought funding from the West of England Combined Authority to be invested in improved facilities for cyclists, pedestrians and bus users. This is part of a strategy to make it easier, safer and more pleasant to use active and sustainable travel options and therefore encourage more people to consider using their cars less (especially for short journeys).Improvements have been prioritised across South Gloucestershire, Bristol and the wider West of England which have the greatest potential impact to deliver benefits for all.

What is proposed for the A4174 between the Coldharbour Lane junction and the Wick Wick roundabout?

👍 We plan to create a new, separate two-way cycleway and footway (or widen the existing cycleways and shared use paths) along this stretch of road to free up more space for pedestrians and make it safer for everyone.👍 We plan to build additional pedestrian crossing points and upgrade existing crossings to make it easier for pedestrians and wheelchair users to get where they need to go.👍 We plan to introduce a new two-lane exit on to Coldharbour Lane from the A4174 to improve traffic flow at this busy junction and ease congestion.👍 We want to reduce speed limits to make getting around safer for everyone.👍 We want to create an accessible new bus stop to open up bus travel to more people.
